MEG-A MUSIC TORONTO - MEGA CARES – HEALTH & WELLNESS

By Mary-Elizabeth Gilbert

To me, Health & Wellness is not only about living a healthy lifestyle but finding your own personal happiness, achieving your goals and just finding the little things in every day life that give you joy. I've decided to start posting my journey through music and entertainment mostly but also through life on here with dates, events, possibly photos of great times and sometimes not so great times. This should be fun most of the time and just like when I started the MySpace account for this website back in 2006, I invite everyone to enjoy the ride and become part of it. This is going to get interesting...

Next adventure coming soon...

Is this green or what - ha ha!

Nice eyelashes!

I will probably never do this again, it was just one of those crazy things I did to pay a bill!

On June 28 & 29, 2008 I worked a promotional event for Gay Pride weekend, it was a very long two days at 9 hours per day but it was a lot of fun. There were about 15 of us who wore a green wig and rainbow colored eyelashes, we certainly created a lot of attention and even though security kicked us out at one point on Church Street for being there without a permit (not our fault) you could tell everyone wanted us to be part of things, we did after all fit right in.

Here's something funny about the the promotional item which happened to be air fresheners for cars. Cab drivers absolutely LOVED us, by the end of two days I swear every cab driver in Toronto was travelling around the city with a bunch of air fresheners which we had given them tons of. We only had 100,000 of them to give out in two days and no, I'm not kidding.

The best part of it all was the fun everyone was having, no one fighting or arguing but just having fun accepting each other, the next thing I loved was watching the parade completely for the first time and being able to take some really great pictures too. What color and vibrancy - wow!

By the end of two days I was burnt from the sun, exhausted, my feet were sore but I was happy and I had enjoyed being part of something very special, something in particular that brought everyone together in so many ways. Why can't we be like this all the time.

By the way, I had never worn fake eyelashes in my life and I challenge you to put them on for the first time in about 10 minutes or less after you worked two jobs the day before and its 10:00 AM in the morning, see how you do - completely hilarious right up to the end!

Here's to peace in this world, may we all just get along...

My main goals at the start of this section are as follows:

- being able to raise money to improve this site and go to see more shows instead of being somewhere else working and missing my friend's show or even new friend's shows. I can't tell you how many times I've been stuck at work when I would rather be out supporting the music scene but the roof over my head has to come first. I also want to raise more money for a better camera, video camera, microphone and all sorts of other gadgets that will help to promote musicians. I am hoping to do my own podcast radio show, take lots of pictures and also take videos of bands so they can upload them to websites. This is the way of the future but I can't do it without the proper funds or equipment. I want to do it all right now but must have a little more patience.

- I also want to start putting on music nights in Toronto at various venues, not often but maybe one every 3-4 weeks depending on my schedule. I've tried doing two in a row, every other week and it just about killed me so I've learned my lesson here. These shows will not be competitions, they will simply be music nights where everyone comes out a winner and the venue, bands and I all walk away with a little extra money and a great time. I am not someone who is greedy, I want each musician to walk out the door with a paid gig, it may not be much or it could be a lot, this depends on everyone working hard to get people out but I will not keep everything, I will share it equally.

- outside of music I need to fix up my home and myself - lol. Losing weight is a huge issue for me that I want to happen. Its crazy when you wake up one day and you are older than you want to be, heavier than you used to be and your metabolism really starts to slow down even more so than before. Part of my weight gain can be attributed to medication during a few health crises moments I've had in my life over the past few years but some of it is my own fault. I will probably write a lot about this as I attempt to lose weight. I presented a music award last year and when I saw the pictures of myself I knew I had to do something, but now finding the time to do it is a different story, actually its not about finding the time its about making the time. Its a choice one has to make if a person wants to change something about themselves, a conscious decision.

- another personal goal for me outside of music is spending more time with my family and friends, its about balance in life and finding time for a little bit of everything. I think there needs to be a division in life which includes work, supporting something you are passionate about like music, your family, friends, pets and most importantly yourself. Taking time for yourself is crucial, knowing and discovering yourself is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

- did I mention NOT spend so much time on MySpace and Facebook and more time outside or with actual people. Why not just go out and see people rather than send a comment? Or see them and then send a comment, isn't that better than being online 24/7, I'm speaking to myself more than anyone but it may apply to you if you have engaged in this pop culture either for friends or for networking and business purposes..

- last but not least is financial goals of having more money to help musicians but also to pay off what I owe. I am so tired of paying interest on things and at my age I just want to focus on paying everything off and beginning with a clean slate. I don't mind putting money out at some point to buy a house, but paying interest and charges you don't have to pay is ridiculous. As I mentioned to someone recently, I definitely live an "Indie" life, I don't have a mansion, I don't even have a car and sometimes I struggle just to go to a movie or see a musician play.

- with respect to the last entry, I'm going to create some things on here where if people want to earn some extra money they can. It may be promotional gigs or just some pieces of part-time work to help pay a bill but I'm someone that if I find something and I think it can help someone else or a friend I will do it. Stay tuned...

David Bryant aka Mr. Support Friend, also music professional, has devoted a large part of his website to health, wellness & even weight issues, all huge topics in today’s society, in particular weight loss.  I cannot speak highly enough about this man, who’s influence for me in the past year has meant the world to me.

You can visit his site at http://www.mrsupportfriend.com

Some of the products he discusses on this site have helped both of us and many of our friends.  You can visit this site below for information about Isagenix, which David mentions on his site.  We are part of a growing community that want to make our lives better by increasing our energy, detoxifying our body of chemicals that we digest or even breathe in from the air and yes, even lose weight.   Of course anything new should always be discussed with your doctor first before trying it.  Even if you buy one or two of these products rather than a complete package of them, even those can help you.

More on Health, Wellness & Weight Loss in general will be placed here in the future.
